Yangmei Seed Germination Guide
01 Jul 2025
Seed Pretreatment (Method: Warm Water Soaking + Cold Stratification)
*Remove the husk and take out the seeds
1. Warm water soaking: Soak yangmei seeds in approximately 30°C water for 24 hours, changing the water
1-2 times daily.
2. Cold stratification: Mix the soaked seeds with moist sand and seal in a plastic bag. Store in a refrigerator
(5-10°C) for 60-90 days.
Sowing Method
- Best seasons: Spring (Feb-Mar) or Autumn (Oct-Nov). Summer sowing is possible with proper shade and
temperature control.
- Soil: Loose, well-drained, slightly acidic (pH 5.0-6.5), ideally with decomposed pine humus.
- Method: Broadcast or spot sowing. Cover seeds with 0.5-1 cm of soil and keep moist. Row spacing 10-15
cm, plant spacing 5-10 cm.
- Germination time: 15-30 days. Seedlings grow to 10 cm in ~70 days.
Summer Management Tips
- Shading: Provide 50-70% shade to prevent heat stress.
- Moisture: Water 1-2 times daily to maintain surface moisture.
- Mulching: Use white or silver reflective mulch to retain moisture, reduce temperature, and suppress weeds.
- Disease prevention: Use a small amount of fungicide (e.g., carbendazim) to prevent mold in hot, humid
conditions
