I tried a number of ways to crack open the husks and remove the seeds. I first tried tapping the husk with a small hammer. The seed husks cracked and broke the seeds. It should also be noted that more than half the seeds were black and shriveled. Some were plump and nice looking. Then I tried to crack the husk with a pair of pliers - I wrapped a paper towel around the seed hush and squeezed slowly so as not to damage the seed. This worked better, but still damaged the seed most of the time. Then I just tool a driemel tool and drilled a 1/16” hole into each husk. Not sure how that will work. I soaked the seeds in warm water as instructed then put them into a ziplock bag with moist sand. I put it into refrigerator so will wait 60 to 90 days before planting. I only tried about 35 seeds so have plenty left. I will buy a small vice that will allow me better control cracking the seed out of the husk. I was not happy with how difficult it was to crack open the husk without damaging the seed, and not happy that many of the seeds were black and shriveled. Not viable to germanate.
